Hari Raya AidilAdha in Toronto 2015

Happy Eid everyone!!!

Today is our first time celebrating EidulAdha in Toronto. Feeling excited!!!
How do muslims in Toronto celebrate the Eid??? Like this!

Actually , not all of them , I am sure they are the group who are at the qurban place or celebrate them with their families and fellow countrymen etc.

Well in the morning we had our Hari Raya meal , first.

Nothing much , just lontong, ayam sambal, dendeng , mee hoon, daging goreng , ayam goreng and choc cake with creme cheese Nutella topping ( pesal nama kaw panjang sangat kek??)..

The cake close up view ( like its absolutely necessary... I just find so much beauty in dessert)

Then we went on to Hari Raya prayers..

Wooo, there is so many muslims in Toronto, no wonder the Masjid of Toronto have the Eid prayers here, they will not be able to cater the amount of jemaah in their masjid.

Btw, this is the Masjid of Toronto which is nearby my husband office where he usually perform his friday prayers.

More pictures of Jemaah.

Thats the entrance , we can see that many people are still streaming in.

The male jemaah is in front, while the ladies and kids at the back.

After 2 rakaat prayers, the khutbah is given in arabic and english.

Thats the imam giving khutbah.

Ummi and Diha.

Getting to know few muslims sisters after prayers.

Then off to makan makan place,

They are many families who set up their table here, celebrating the eid together, while the children play at the festival under the same roof. ( this festival is held in a very big exhibition hall)Yes they actually had games, booth selling goodies, food, clothes, books and many more. ( some how I forgot to take the pictures ).

My kids also did not miss the chance to enjoy some of the bouncy castle game ...

Us ...Aeee itu je baju raya awak????hihihi, feeling not wanting to overdress , dunno what to expect, but some of the muslims who came here do wear their beautiful beady ethnic clothes. Maybe next year lah ye.

Overall, its humbling to see and get to know so many muslims here with different background and ethnicity, getting together to celebrate this beautiful day. We are happy to learn and experience the different way people celebrate Eid in this country. Thank you MAC for their hard work in planning this event. Looking forward to join more of MAC ( Muslim Association of Canada) activities and programs insyaAllah.

Happy Eid everyone !!!

Islamic lesson - solat.

This is currently one of our istiqamah islamic lesson with the kids. The most important component of being a muslim. Solat.

Everyday, after their evening bath, the boys will take their wudhu' and will perform maghrib or isya' prayer in front of my husband. Abah will correct both the rukun qauli( recitation) rukun fi'li ( movement).
Sometimes we will solat jamaah together.

Zuhayr taking wudu'.

Harith taking wudhu'.

Zuhayr performing solat.

Harith performing solat.
They will perform the solat individually while being observe by my husband, they will recite the surah and dua' in solat loudly for abah to correct them.

Solat jemaah , diha pon join.

Aik dah kebelakang, gerak dah.

Tahiyat akhir, diha ikut lentok kepala.

Its important to do something short and simple to ascertain istiqamah(continuous practice).

I feel it is very important for every muslim parents to take responsibility for teaching solat and quran to their children even though they will learn them from school. Education as it is now is not the same as it use to be back then. School while have became so much harder than it use to be back then , they cant seem to teach most of the essentials, be it in islamic knowledge or knowledge of life as a whole.

May Allah shower this effort with barakah . I hope this sharing will be of benefit to muslim parents like me. Ameen.

Toronto sightseeing part 2.

We visited more places around Toronto with the bus during the weekdays while hubby at work.

We went to St Lawrence market, the best fresh food market in Toronto.

Thats is what the market looks like within. So clean and neat.Surprisingly the structure looks familiar...hmmm

Like tada... Ben than market. * Feeling nostalgic*. However the structure is the only thing that is similar about these 2 buildings.

The shops in St Lawrence market sells fresh vegetables and fruits, fish, beef, chicken, ranges of cheese, cookis, bread, cakes and many more. The shops are not so packed together.

Among the goods in the market, i really like the market, its really pretty, even the food is arrange in such that is just looks so beautiful.

In another day we went to see the china town . Toronto is such a multicultural cities that it has lots of such ethnic town, such as korean town, little italy, little india and many more.

Really feel like we are in China. Then suddenly we found something rather unique.

A drawing of ben than market!!!. It is actually drawn at the wall of a vietnamese restaurant.

Looking closer its actually drawn by a famous artist Minh Duc himself. Hmmmmm....interesting.

Then we went over to Kensington market. The shops are uniquely situated at rows of houses. This is where the hippies of the city chill.

Well thats all for our Jalan-jalan story. Thank you for reading. Muah.

Baking cookies.

Aloo ummi why so much stories of sightseeing , no ummi in the house stories ni.

So let share amongst few of the activities we do at home.

One of the curiculum requirements for Harith grade is following written instruction and writing instruction.

So I feel nothing is more fun than doing them first hand. It would be more fun.

Collecting all the ingredients as the instruction.

We start making our cookies.

Diha pon sibuk tolong, ( please ignore the messy multipurpose table) :D.

Thats our batter ready to bake, thats diha finger digging the choc chip within tha batter, and she ate so much of the raw dough. *sigh*.

Somehow i love to make my choc chip cookies this way.

done!!!!

Easy step one two three.

And tea time!!! The kids enjoyed this so much. If only learning can be so much fun always.

Toronto island.

Hello, today I am gonna share more about my Toronto sightseeing tour activity. One of the perks we got with the Toronto sighseeing hop on hop off bus ticket is a free boat ride around Toronto Island. The boat cant stop at the island however. For that we need to buy another boat ticket.

Toronto island is situated just outside the Toronto city centre and provided the shelter for Toronto harbour. Interestingly there is an international airport within the island ( The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport), a small residential community, and recreational park. Yes there is actually people living in the island and their children actually have to board a boat everyday to mainland to go to school.

This is us at the harbour of lake Ontario the land across is Toronto island, not the United states taw.

So students  as we can see above, lake Ontario is a geographical border between Canada and USA. There you can see us, Toronto and across the lake is new york state already.

Diha and abah on the boat.

Diha and umi pulak on the boat.

The view of the Toronto city centre on the boat is breathtaking. Ni gambar saya ambil sendiri. :D.
And that plane is just about to land at Billy Bishop airport.

And that is an artist illustration of the beautiful city of Toronto from across the lake.

There is a lot of activities that can be done in the island. There is no private vehicle on the island except for state own vehicle. However you can bring your bike on the boat and ride a bike across the island, there is few small island within this archipelago of Toronto island however the island is inteconnected so you can actually go to all the islands. In the centre island there is a children theme park, zoo and also beaches. I was told by the tourist guide there is also a clothing optional beaches there. Eeeeeee.....

The boat deck with the Amsterdam bridge view behind. The city of Amsterdam have the simmilar bridge which is named Toronto bridge. Mesti nak kena pegi tengok ni one day.

More of the kids pic at the harbour. ( on a different sighseeing day)

That is the Toronto island view from the CN tower.

Hmmm we do we go next??...
